OUTERWEAR

SPACER Bomber Jacket

If there’s a piece that really conveys all aspects of my design approach, it might be the SPACER bomber jacket I developed Spring 2019. I used this as an opportunity to play around with material and color blocking. The exterior includes red canvas, red microsuede (also the sleeve lining), and a blue chevron stretch canvas. The poly satin lining looks like 1990 threw up on it and I love it immensely.

The name was simplified from “space racer”. I wanted to create a stylistic mash-up of Cowboy Bebop and Speed Racer, with a red and yellow checkered racing print on the ribbed hem.

WAVELENGTH Ski Jacket

This project was a great lesson in what materials work well together and which materials…don’t. Inspired by Monclair, I chose an awesome sleek, wet-look navy nylon which I had planned to quilt with Primaloft insulation. But of course, that was nowhere to be found in time, in person or online. So I used batting instead. While the quilting looks nice with the wavelength design lines, it proved to make the jacket stiffer than I had hoped.

I was ultimately pleased with my actual design. I managed to pattern a lined zip-off hood with snaps having patterned a hood never. I’m pretty proud of that.
